Prayer to Saint Michael

The Saint Michael the Archangel prayer was composed by Pope Leo XIII in 1886 and was said at the end of all Low Masses until 1964. With the revision of the liturgy at Vatican II, this prayer was no longer offered at the end of Mass. However, both Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis recommended this prayer at the end of Mass. With all that is happening in our country and the world, I believe it is good to reinstate this prayer, which we will pray just before the recessional at the foot of the altar. For those who do not know this prayer, it is printed on the back cover of the missalette.

Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our protection against
the wickedness and snares
of the devil.
May God rebuke him,
we humbly pray;
and do thou,
O Prince of the heavenly hosts,
by the power of God,
cast into hell satan
and all the evil spirits
who roam about the world
seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen
